This is exactly what I want from a good Muscadet, fresh, salty, energetic and incredibly easy to drink.
Made from 100% Melon de Bourgogne, the grape traditionally associated with Muscadet in the Loire Valley, it’s a variety known for its naturally high acidity, relatively subtle fruit and brilliant ability to reflect a maritime influence. It isn’t an especially aromatic grape, which is part of the appeal — instead you get freshness, minerality and that distinctive saline character that makes Muscadet such a natural match with seafood.
Here there’s plenty of lemon pith, Granny Smith apple and a touch of smokiness, but it’s that salty, briny edge that really makes the wine interesting. Ageing sur lie, with time spent on the dead yeast cells after fermentation, adds extra texture and a little more depth without taking away from the freshness.
Light, crisp and beautifully clean, with enough texture to stop it feeling simple. Dangerously drinkable and a great example of why Melon de Bourgogne and Muscadet deserve far more attention.
