This is proper quality wine in a seriously clever pouch. Mother Block Red is based on Nero d’Avola and Sagrantino, with touches of Sangiovese and Teroldego, and there’s far more going on here than you’d expect from wine in this format.
Juicy summer berries, strawberry, plum and cherry lead into darker fruit, with touches of liquorice, dark chocolate, vanilla and spice. It’s supple and moreish, with lovely savoury complexity and a fine, lingering finish.
What I love most is the format. This is quality red wine in a superior pouch that keeps the wine fresh, making it ideal for camping, picnics, weekends away, or finally having a genuinely good glass of red on tap at home without having to open a whole bottle.
Forget what you think you know about cask wine, this is a completely different beast.
