That Was Then is a brand new hazy IPA that's one half of a pair of IPA's where we take a second to reflect on how much our brewing styles have changed over the years. That Was Then sees us dial back the clock, reverting to a more OG Range IPA base recipe, with a hop selection of all US hops that is more reminiscent of an IPA we'd have brewed circa 2019. For the malt bill, we bring in a heavy dose of Golden Promise to compliment the pale base malt, with some small additions of vienna and select cara-malts more just that little bit of colour and flavour hit. On the hop selection we went with Citra, Simcoe, Cashmere and Simcoe Cryo - some absolute classics and Range favourites from back in the day. The colour is a gorgeous orange, still with plenty of haze, but less of that 'milky' texture that we chase in our modern IPA's. On those nose we've got citrus, melon and just a hint of pine coming through eluding perfectly to the hop flavours to come. Take a sip to find a beautiful full and dense body that brings a hint of malt sweetness, along with hop notes of peach rings, melon sorbet, juicy and fleshy citrus, fresh squeezed OJ and a pineapple finishing hit. The finish is juicy and slightly sweet, rounding out a perfect throwback IPA.
