Durif was first planted in Morris’ vineyards in 1920 where it was initially used for production of fortifieds. It wasn’t until 1954 when Mick Morris pioneered production of Durif as a dry red table wine in Rutherglen. Renown for its rich, generous fruit and robust tannin structure it has since gone on to become the regions most famed table wine variety.
Matured in French and American oak hogsheads. Impenetrable pitch black colour with a very deep black dark red hue. A heady mix of black cherry, liquorice and morello cherry aromas are followed by dark chocolate, toasty vanillin oak and spice notes. Heavily weighted, rich and possessing an opulent yet chewy mouthfeel, the large scaled palate is awash with morello to black cherry and liquorice fruits. Vanillin oak, scorched earth and spicy mocha characters lie underneath.
Firm yet polished tannin structure concluding long, boldly fruited and robust.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
