In 2023, Hop Nation kicked off a new series that – fittingly given their name – centered around different New Zealand hops. After taking in the country’s deep south, Nelson Lakes and Freestyle’s farms, the Melbourne brewery’s fourth entry is focused on those that come courtesy of the Eggers family, who have been growing hops in the Moutere Valley for six generations.
To show off the Eggers' farm, Hop Nation heavily dry-hopped a double IPA with Nelson Sauvin, alongside some Mosaic Cryo. Breathe it all in, imagine you’re in Moutere and you’ll be treated to fresh orange, grapefruit rind, a heavy dose of passionfruit and a whisper of nectarine. But while hops might be the star, there’s also an astute malt presence bringing balance via a touch of caramel to a beer that proved a winner when they showcased it at the Point Break Brewery Invitational.
